A Lifetime in the Making

Pre pandemic, I ran Bodhi Tree Bodyworks. An amazing team in an amazing old building that offered something really quite special. A little haven in the heart of Denton, TX where you could walk in for a massage or a facial, reiki or taro reading, a yoga class or to buy a locally made gift from the boutique, and immediately breathe a little deeper.

I'm super proud of BT, but I also am proud of closing when I did. The pandemic forced us all to stay safe at home, stay a little quieter, it gave us the chance to re evaluate our lives and systems.

The following year when I accepted clients again after vaccines started to roll out, I was tired, I was fragile. The idea of picking up the hustle I had been doing for years leading up to 2020 was not appealing. At the same time, I was realizing how much I LOVED working one on with clients again! (Being the owner of a bigger spa meant my 1/1 work had dwindled over the years). I decided I wanted to really take care of myself in a way I hadn't been doing before. I decided to put my health first and my business second. I decided to grow again slowly, like a really resilient tree, and let my roots run deep.

This manifested in my sobriety, a divorce, coming out at 40, redefining what family looks like in my world. It showed up as I took time to grieve the loss of my mother, and help my older kids enter adulthood in a very changed, post pandemic world. It meant I hit the gym and an early bedtime, even if that means less clients. It's meant staying in a small office with just the clientele I can manage on my own, and manage well.

So here we are, in 2026, and it's a different world than in 2020. I'm a different massage therapist. And for several years I've included coaching in my offerings, because we all do better when we are strong and resilient, not just relaxed.

Keep an eye on the blog, I'll be adding more details about the business as it stands today, where I'm going and what I'm building for the future.

Love, Shelley
